Hisense U7K review: Mini LED masterclass – without the - T3

While it looks premium, it’s very compact and buttons are tightly packed, and that can lead to the wrong buttons being pressed. While this blooming can extend a bit further beyond the edges of stand-out bright image areas than it perhaps should with so many light control features in play, though, it only crops up during really very extreme content – pretty much bright white objects appearing against pitch-black backdrops. The bigger the TV screen, the narrower its bezels tend to appear – and in the case of the 65U7KQTUK, its aluminium bezels are very, very narrow indeed when viewed from dead ahead and only 5mm when seen in profile. You can never really know what sort of Hisense product you’re getting until it’s up and running – and previous experience told me that disappointment was every bit as likely as enjoyment. This is the perfect all-rounder with stunning HDR capabilities, superb accuracy to the standards in Filmmaker Mode, perfect blacks and contrast, four HDMI 2.

There’s none of the headline features here, so if a brand-new console is of interest then the Hisense is not optimised for it. The 25% window is the brightest of them all and this also points to issues with over brightening of the HDR image that introduces other issues with clipping. It’s nice to find this remote sporting direct access buttons for Disney+, Netflix, Prime Video, Freeview Play and YouTube, too.

The scene in Skyfall (Dolby Vision Bright) where Bond is served a martini at the Macau gambling palace features smearing, but at least it’s better controlled (just). The TCL also offers support for HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, Dolby Vision and Dolby Vision IQ along with audio support for DTS:X and Dolby Atmos. Again, there’s a slight softness, especially with faces, but there’s enough detail for the Hisense U7QF to feed on. The U7K’s build quality is a touch lightweight and plastic-rich versus the bodywork of those more premium rival Mini LED models mentioned above. As with almost any TV these days, the U7K is able to apply its upmarket lighting system to high dynamic range content made in the HDR10 and HLG formats. Europe's busiest forums, with independent news and expert reviews, for TVs, Home Cinema, Hi-Fi, Movies, Gaming, Tech and more. Contrasts are strong even though the 65U7KQTUK isn’t the out-and-out brightest screen around, and the Mini LED backlighting proves its worth both in how even and consistent it is, and in its ability to illuminates little patches of light in otherwise-dark scenes without any overt haloing or blooming.
