If the motor is receiving 240v (on the brown and blue) it should rotate the spindle about 15 degrees and operate the microswitch. To view the purposes they believe they have legitimate interest for, or to object to this data processing use the vendor list link below. As Boilers and radiators are installed by third parties, they do have to install in compliance with regulations and manufacturer standards to get the full benefit of the warranty. Honeywell and Drayton motorised valve bodies only turn through a limited arc and you must “feel” for the points at which the movement stops. If Hot Water is turned on again, or all the mains power is turned off, the motor will be de-energised and the spring will pull the valve back to the Hot Water Only position (port A closed; port B open). Apart from the few moments when it is switching between ports, Port A and Port B are not open together. If you would like to change your settings or withdraw consent at any time, the link to do so is in our privacy policy accessible from our home page. The motor must then be wriggled back into place so that one of the motor flanges slides back below the angled metal tab on the powerhead.

I have an old one here in the kitchen and it looks like if you manually move the lever to the manual/open position then the lever almost hits the mircoswitch. We’re told that the ball touches one edge of the circular port first, causing the ball to rotate slightly on its spindle. When the powerhead is lifted away from the valve body, the jammed mechanism may free itself and spring back into position. The orange valve wire may have a potential of 230V but this is coming from the cylinder stat (to which the orange wire is also connected) and not from the circuitry of the valve. I Have tested the wiring from the Thermostat through the wiring centre to the valve wiring where the light brown wire becomes live when thermostat is turned but the orange wire does not go live? They tell us that the valve has moved into the mid-position where both Heating and Hot Water ports are open. Years Guaranteed 1 Width 112 mm Type Zone Valve Size 22 mm Number of Ports 2 Maximum Temperature 50C Maximum Pressure 8. In the past, Honeywell told us that the motors made for them produced a higher level or torque than the standard SYNCHRON motor. The other valve is the same the blue wire when connected to the junction box loses 240v not sure why but red herring i think.

One programmer channel controls the heating (radiators or underfloor) and the other programmer channel controls hot water. This is because the lever can onlydrive the valve just a little past the mid-position but the motor drives it much further.

There is always an open pathway from port AB to port A or from port AB to port B or from port AB to both ports A and B at the same time. When a demand comes from the programmer (via the thermostat), the motor is energised and drives the valve open to allow water to pass. If you turn the hot water on and the programmer instructs the valve to open, then you should feel the lever will move freely (try to move it before you turn the programmer to the on position - you will feel some resistance, to compare the difference). This should have left you with a failed motor which is now disconnected from the powerhead and can be discarded. When I put the hot water on, the boiler (a 10 year old baxi solo) will run for about 10 mins before the overheat light comes on, followed by banging in the pipes.
