About this deal

speed so I set it at normal pace and 15 hours in John's company later I'm going to start again at the beginning.

John Cooper Clarke (born 25 January 1949) is an English performance poet who first became famous as a " punk poet" in the late 1970s.It’s an unimpeachable talent who can honestly describe his narcotics habit, come out of it alive and triumphant, whilst finding humour in its squalid pathos. I think it is dangerous to think it is anything to do with having an ‘addictive personality’ or any of that bollocks.

and even if you got a stretch of park you just had to scrape the grass and there were, like, cinders underneath. My cat was not as impressed with my renditions--I will admit that my attempts at Clarke's accent were a massive failure--but I found speaking the words out loud really enhanced my experience. Igår kväll underhöll han hela Hammersmith Apollo med sin legendariska performancepoesi och den där clarkeska deadpanhumorn. It is possible as a book I may have struggled but when I hear the author making his own lines sing I found it pleasurable. Another reason why 'The Luckiest Guy Alive' is such an impressive collection of poems is that Clarke's language is both unique and universal.I love playing Where’s Wally with poems – find the metaphor, spot the simile detour relationship never really went beyond that which is strange because I love music and essentially lyrics are just poems to music. I know the book is an autobography and this is what his life was like for around twenty years, but I found it depressing to read. About drugs, Clarke is both connoisseurial and fastidious – he has a horror of being ill, yet shooting up three times a day allows him to live “like a normal citizen”. I wanted to like this book, I'm a fan of John Cooper Clarke's work and have seen him on stage a couple times and loved his shows. As the bard so eloquently spits ‘get back on drugs you fat fuck’ ‘ he should know, or was that Vanessa Redgrave, she knows :) I was in bits when he shifts to Essex or Cockney where he exposes the one dimensional characters who hide behind TOWIE cliches, but then he rips right through and deeper.
