For your money you don’t get a cardboard presentation sleeve like the MGXO but you do get a very similar corked enclosure. OVER 65 visitors were in Barbados (17–21 February 2010) enjoying a welcomed break from their cold countries thanks to Remy Cointreau, the parent company of Mount Gay Rum. Black Barrel Cask Strength is a rum best enjoyed over ice allowing the flavours to diffuse and mature over time. On the palate, burnt caramel and creamy vanilla give off a creme brulee vibe, underpinned by ripe pear, banana, and peppery oak, culminating in a long, oak-and-toffee finish. This made me pull out my other rums and compare because I'd always thought they were fine, but this made me rethink things and if you like a sweeter, but strong spirit give this a go.
Purists have also had a bit of a gripe about the new presentation leading to inferior product inside as well.
