About this deal

Discussions in circle time could be used where we throw a football around student to student where each child says something that the love about themselves. So it goes, in a gentle rhyme, as Large parries any number of questions that for Small are very telling. Just cute little foxy touches that make the story that much better, more interesting, and more enjoyable. Bear, and for her series of spooky middle-grade fantasies about the Strega-Borgia family, which began with Pure Dead Magic - also happens to be the author of my all-time favorite reassurance tale, No Matter What. Farewell, sweet dust; I never was a miser: Once, for a minute, I made you mine: Now you are gone, I am none the wiser But the leaves of the willow are as bright as wine.

Though this was never included in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, it’s a good choice of funeral reading for a fan of Tolkien.

Despite being written fourteen years before his death, this poem is inscribed on the author’s gravestone. This story would be a good resource to explain bereavement and could be used in KYS1 for the subjects of PSHE or RE. It’s better to continue the good work that the person started in life as a source of comfort instead.

Picture books that are reassuring can help soothe a child, help them know that they are loved–or should be loved. I live with my father, my mother, my baby brother, Tony, and my older sister, Angelica at number 43 Juniper street. She started writing children's books in 1976, and attended art school in Edinburgh from 1979 to 1984. Even though this funeral reading is obviously non-religious and quite matter of fact, it’s actually quite comforting. I didn't see this as a grief/death thing at all, instead I interpreted it as a "someone's moved away" scenario. The rhyming text itself is simple and sweet, making for a good read-aloud, and the adorable illustrations are colorful and appealing. Maria goes on to name her place in her town, county, state, country, continent, hemisphere, planet, solar system, galaxy, and universe, knowing that as small as it may be in comparison, her immediate world is significant. After some thought, I realized that “squishy bug” and the child worrying if they’ll still get a hug might mean if the child was feeling unlovable–but I wish that connection were stronger. As the name suggests, this poem would be an ideal funeral reading for someone who had a sense of humour.

Guided by the Lonely Star, beyond the utmost harbour-bar, I’ll find the heavens fair and free, and beaches of the Starlit Sea. Non-religious funeral readings and poems can help acknowledge the passing of a loved one and bring comfort to those in attendance. I’ve taken in recent years to thinking about my funeral and have decided to make one paramount request: play jolly music at that ritual. We have also written a blog What are Continuing Bonds which talks about how ,when someone dies, our relationship with them doesn’t end, but it changes.

While No Matter What is a classic parent/child love story, it’s the last two pages (about love existing no matter what) which choke me up, night after night.
