About this deal

The book moves along very well, with Lawler’s style crisp and no nonsense, yet underlying everything is a subtle sense of humor. The last thing JJ and John B want to do is spend their week watching Kooks in action, so they plan a fishing getaway to the notoriously dangerous Frying Pan Shoals—nicknamed “Graveyard of the Atlantic” for good reason. Thirty years later, the group gathers again for a week at Ginger's place at Nag's Head to get caught up and reminisce about old times.

This one is probably my favorite of her books, especially since I am from the Outer Banks and know exactly of the raw beauty she speaks. I'm so glad that I did, because I'm truly surprised by how much I liked this book, and for all the reasons that it appealed to me when I first read the reviews back in my Davis days. Over the years he gathered quite a number of those tales together—some of them true, some of them maybe true, and some of them…well…good stories. At the end, the one true friend is the one who would risk your displeasure and her own life to drag you out of the pretend world you mired yourself in. Alyssa Sheinmel is the New York Times bestselling author of several novels for young adults, including The Castle School (for Troubled Girls), What Kind of Girl, A Danger to Herself and Others, and Faceless.Ballance is careful to not draw any conclusions in his writing, allowing readers to decide for themselves what has been lost and gained.
