The books largely consist of fantasy and historical novels; many of them for children and young adults. By teaming up with her new friend Ariadne and ballet teacher Miss Finch, Ivy hopes to discover what really happened to her sister.The Last Secret is the finale to the girls’ adventures and the author has confirmed there are no plans for Scarlet and Ivy book 7 at the moment. The legends surrounding the town drowned beneath the reservoir seem to be coming true, and is there more to one of their friends than she is letting on?

Scarlet and Ivy both adore ballet, one of their friends is obsessed with horses and ponies, and they all love to sit around enjoying candy-filled midnight feasts and giggling. By the end of the course, she had developed something of a secret diary and an idea for a lost twin for the lead. After dabbling with a few different options, I decided to go with the 1930s because it was a period that really interested me that wasn’t being depicted in many books at the time.

It is not surprising that her novels have been compared to Nancy Drew as she absolutely loved to read the likes of The Famous Five, Nancy Drew, The Baby Sitters Club and Goosebumps. Ivy the lead character is often torn between acting as Scarlet her brash sister and being the shy person that she truly is. I went to an all-girls school myself (though it wasn’t private or a boarding school), so it was very familiar to me. Thankfully, things have improved somewhat since then, and she has earned a BA in Creative Writing and MA in Writing for Young People from Bath Spa University. Scarlet had been attending Rookwood, a creepy boarding school when she died of influenza leaving Ivy her twin sister devastated.
