About this deal

There are three safe-audio modes: Toddler Mode is set to an ear-protecting 75dB; Kids Mode goes up to 85db; and Travel Mode ups the volume to 94db to block out background noise.

Another set of Bluetooth open-ear headphones that transmit sound via the cheekbones using bone-conduction technology is myFirst’s BC Wireless Lite. We’ve tested quieter, but these often raised complaints from our helpful child testers, so if you can trust your child not to wear these at full volume for hours on end, you should be ok. I finally prised them from her grasp after she fell asleep; small children are nothing if not tenacious. Children, especially the very young, like to use their mouths and new teeth, so are likely to chew on a wired headphones’ cord. That 85dB level is derived from occupational studies of noise exposure and hearing loss for adults, not children. Audio quality is good for kids’ headphones, and there are side-mounted controls for volume, pause/play, back and forwards, etc.

There’s a range of great designs: Monster, Unicorn, Plane, Giraffe, Penguin, Piggy, Chicken, and Cat. You can remove the the headphones to wash the band, which we found useful (thanks Nutella on toast). She put them on - the band is adjustable for smaller heads, with a soft velcro closing - and refused to take them off for a few hours. Fasten the velcro at the back and your small person can happily sit and watch CBeebies till their heart's content. Because they are aimed at children, they are volume limited to 85dB, making sure you don’t damage their hearing - or, more likely, that they don’t accidentally crank it up and do it themselves.

The volume did sound a little higher than some of the other headphones—not excessively so, but still noticeable. of children and adolescents aged 6–19 years have suffered permanent damage to their hearing as a result of earphones and devices turned to a high volume. They might not have the cute stickers that some kids’ headphones offer and they look quite conventional, but that may well appeal to older kids who don’t want to their cool cans to have princess or animal themes. As with other such headphones, they do lack some bass but for kids use they work and sound just fine.
