Black and silver is always going to look smart – and pairs wonderfully with the Xbox Series X and its related accessories – and the big, soft ear cushions bring in some soft textures that tie the whole thing together. This is a big, chunky headset, but it eschews the lurid colours of models of old in favour of a more discreet black and silver finish. The microphone is incredibly accurate and clear and allows you to speak at a resting volume with no interruptions or distortion on the listening end.

Here you can adjust the level of the Mic Monitor (how much you can hear your own voice through the cans), switch the functionality of a couple of custom controls, and switch between sound profiles. The Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX works with PlayStation and Xbox consoles along with Nintendo Switch (docked) and Steam Deck. In the narrative game Citizen Sleeper, the Max nailed both the rumbling, ambient spaceship sounds and the bouncy, futuristic music layered on top, while in Elden Ring the clash of sword on armor rang through my head.The Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max is a major refresh of one of the best wireless headsets around, the Stealth 700 Gen 2. After some fiddling in the PS5 settings and testing in Elden Ring, I found a setup that gave me a full, rich landscape of music and game sounds.
