About this deal

Using both the text and illustrations, children are asked to think about the similarities and differences between the pair.

Om’s lack of English lent itself to some good conversation about non verbal communication and the children were able to do some drama pretending to talk to a Stone Age person they couldn’t understand. No cave paintings have been found in Britain, but Stone Age Britons probably painted scenes like the ones found at Lascaux in France . Luckily, we at Twinkl have taken all possible efforts to save you time with a great range of teacher-made activities for your class. I particularly liked the factual aspects which really helped the children to understand more about how people lived differently. This beautifully illustrated mat includes a range of exciting adjectives to describe the characters and settings in the story. This video from BBC Teach uses archaeological evidence that has been found to imagine what the lives of people could have been like. I have seen this page used to inspire writing as well as alongside teaching of how people lived in the Stone Age.

I love how the main character was influenced by his Stone Age friend into becoming an archaeologist as an adult! He was not trained as an artist, but at the age of 19 began to do commercial work as an illustrator for adverts and magazines. You can also create a stand-out display for your classroom using our beautifully illustrated resources.

This amazing picture book about the Stone Age is entertaining and educational at the same time, my year 3/4 class loved it. There are lots of learning opportunities around the book due to the story following factual aspects of the Stone Age. Can you use these to perform a play in which the characters explain and compare what their lives are like? Stone Age Boy concerns a young boy who wakes up and finds that he has somehow been transported back to the stone age. And I really liked the author's note at the end of the book that explains the inspiration for the tale. The Stone Age is split into three parts; Palaeolithic (old Stone Age), Mesolithic (middle Stone Age) and the Neolithic (new Stone Age).
