About this deal

It´s wonderful, it´s kind of even denser than the Discworld, because there are no longer introspections, dialogues, and philosophizing about ethics, morality, and the nature of good and evil, just easy fun and entertainment. It also shows that even in the, allegedly simple, literature for young bookworms, there is so much potential for remixing, reinterpreting, and retelling that one would wish to get into a time machine to be able to enjoy it once again, or sadly often the first time, with the full immersive pleasure of being young again.

Many characters are animals, though there is ethnic diversity among the human characters, with one of the leads, Keith, having brown skin and voiced by Himesh Patel, a British Asian actor of Indian descent.

But when they reach a place where the rats have all disappeared, along with all the town's food, they must team up with the mayor's daughter, Malicia ( Emilia Clarke), to solve the mystery and save the day. I think it's because it's a stand-alone within the Discworld universe, and those have never been my favourites. Meanwhile, Maurice has entered the mayor's house and when Keith tries to find him, they meet the mayor's daughter, Malicia, who quickly deduces - after seeing tap-dancing rat Sardines - that they are behind the recent plague of rats in nearby towns and enlists them to help discover the reason behind the city's food shortage.

BBC Radio 4 broadcast a 90-minute dramatisation on 23 August 2003, which was repeated on BBC 7 on 2 June 2007 and 27 April 2008. Sardines epitomizes the group of rats who harass the humans into thinking they have a full-blown infestation. In any case, the disembodied voice business just didn’t jive with me and felt out of place in this story. Gosh, really,’ said Maurice, wondering if there were any more fish-heads and, if there were any more fish-heads, whether they were worth all this. However, Maurice (so terrified that he stops thinking and acts instinctively) pounces on the rat king and destroys it.A male character is told he's not handsome enough for a love interest, which could support unhealthy looks-oriented stereotypes and expectations.

A passing comment reinforces traditional gender roles: "If I don't hear ladies screaming and running out of their kitchens . Maurice is blessedly short on fart jokes* and long on Pratchett's brand of homespun philosophical irony.

Maybe it has to do with the fact that I never found the tale of the Pied Piper of Hamelin very appealing when I was a child.

While the characters lie and manipulate others, they show strong dedication to one another and value the importance of friendship. When one thinks of some of modern literature's greatest fantasy tales, one may think of the works of Neil Gaiman or C.When it's discovered that Bad Blintz already has a rat problem -- one that a couple of shifty-eyed rat catchers claim to have under control -- things turn deadly.
