Furthermore, even though he had a better understanding of UK law, setting his novels in the UK was out of the question given the dual system of representation that would have necessitated two lead characters. The book started strong BUT the plot lost steam about halfway, and started to drag, dumping information to try and explain the complicated TWIST. But now that he has met the client, he is convinced that he is innocent despite the mountain of incriminating evidence.

The real magic is in Steve Cavanagh's hypnotic storytelling power and you'll gulp this down like it's the first Guinness after Lent. No one and nothing is as it seems, it’s best to just fasten your seat belt and go along for the ride. The addition of those scenes made the book realistic enough to make sense but deliberate enough to capture your interest. I am a huge fan of mind bending thrillers where most of the enjoyment comes from solving the riddle or puzzle before its revealed.Working through his evenings when his family went to sleep, he finished his first draft within a year. And Lebau is quite upfront at the start that as a reader you should not believe “a single word you read”. After reading another recommendation in “Red Dragon” he was hooked onto thriller and crime novels and later legal novels from the likes of John Grisham and John Mortimer.

So many times I had to go back and re read what I had just read as I struggled to comprehend what I was reading. J.T LeBeau is a bestselling author, one of the most famous authors in the country but no one knows who J. Twisted is the first standalone novel by Steve Cavanagh, and the first not featuring either a criminal trial or defense attorney Eddie Flynn. While gaining valuable experience in his field of work, he also got his solicitor qualifications, which allowed him to become a famous young lawyer in his country. Cavanagh creates a wonderful story with a handful of basic characters, turning a simple reveal into a masterful game of cat and mouse.Or are they plotting to take my life apart because I once skipped ahead of them in the line in the supermarket? A brilliantly twisted and oft unexpected standalone thriller from Steve Cavanagh, probably the most fun you'll have with a book this year. I also always had an interest in the law, so I read John Mortimer’s Rumpole of the Bailey series and, of course, John Grisham. Steve Cavanagh is the only author from Northern Ireland to win The Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award, which was awarded in 2019.

I think it’s best if I don’t go into detail with this one - the less you know the more you’ll enjoy it. However, this was a little bit too convoluted hence the 3/4 stars, or maybe it’s because I didn’t work it out. Many find most thriller fiction predictable and some of it is (yet this doesn’t detract from it being a favourite genre for me). Worried that they will be found out, Maria and Daryl concoct a fake robbery so that Paul is none the wiser to their breaking into his office. Paul Cooper, a sales management consultant is married to Maria, and the couple moved to Port Lonely to live.Their publisher doesn’t even know his or her true identity and they will go to any lengths to keep it that way. If you enjoy thrillers to keep you dangling for answers whilst ramping up the pace then you definitely need to read TWISTED! A wonderful mystery that permits the reader to play an omnipotent role, where truth is an ever-changing commodity. If all of a sudden, we started judging authors based on whichever work of theirs we read first, Steve would not be happy about his ratings. Of course, her infidelity is not a betrayal because she is genuinely in love and it’s her husband’s fault she is unhappy. The book I have loved so far this year is ‘Twisted’ by Steve Cavanagh, published by Orion on the 24th January 2019. There were certainly some plot twists I didn't see coming, it was just not the sort of twist I expected/wanted.

Last Updated on December 11, 2019 Steve Cavanagh is an Irish thriller author whom I first heard about through his work with Mark Dawson on one of their Group Fifteen novellas (namely Scorpion), published 2017. Maria cannot believe that her husband, who keeps her on an allowance, has been writing some of the most talked about books and no one has yet identified him.
