About this deal

Thorne’s girlfriend Helen and step-son Alfie are there in the background, with their relationships developing, and with Helen working a suspected child abuse case as she’s a social worker. The idea of honour killings – be it for love or some other inferred shame – is the central premise of this book. To those who disobey or ‘dishonour’ their family, a fate such as that which befell Banaz is sadly far more prevalent than any of us would like to accept. In this review, meanwhile, we’re pleased to report that all that passion has been channeled into what is a gripping and at times brutal story.

Two teenagers go missing and the body of Amaya Shah is found and her boyfriend Kamal Azim is missing. Although Tanner usually follows the manual by the letter, to work the case she needs someone who really is known for winging it. She has been investigating a series of honour killings in the Muslim, Sikh and Hindu communities and she is convinced the murder of her partner is connected, but Tanner is pulled from the case, put on compassionate leave. As before, her relentless enquiries into who could be behind what they are sure are honour killings, leads them both into danger. Phil Hendricks, the pathologist, is back for more banter with Thorne and Tanner tentatively joins in, forming a team of three very different cops whose dialogue aids the storytelling. Enter DI Tom Thorne, whose erratic and sometimes confrontational approach gets his superiors riled, but also gets results. Sans doute Mark Billingham aurait-il pu se montrer plus incisif, mais poser le problème n'est déjà pas si mal. I'm sure they aren't doing it to boost hardbound sales, that would strike me as rather cheesy behavior. Thorne wangles it so that he can take the case, because he thinks it might be linked to the unsolved case of a murdered Sikh woman that he worked. But her story has most certainly inspired a book which becomes somewhat of a moral dilemma in the making. Honour killings have also been documented in Jewish and Christian communities,' Tanners says in the book.It is about "honor" killings in the Hindu, Sikh, and Muslim communities in the UK, namely members of families whose honor has been damaged by the behavior of a sister, brother, daughter.

So I was horrified upon reading Marks notes at the end of the story, to find that this is a growing problem in The UK.

She is now on compassionate leave but insists on pursuing the case off the books, and knows Thorne is just the man to jump into the fire with her. After a couple of very disappointing recent titles in the Tom Thorne series, Mark Billingham seems to have found his mojo again in Love Like Blood. Convinced it is tied into a theory she was investigating she hopes Thorne will show his usual disregard for procedure and follow the leads unconsidered in the main investigation.

She knows from Tom Thornes reputation for not playing by the rules, that he is the one she needs to help her with her ongoing investigation. The threads in the plot line are well thought out and brought together, although a little suddenly at the end. No missing or damaged pages, no tears, possible very minimal creasing, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins.Instead, Billingham personalizes the issue by giving us relatable characters of all stripes who are just trying to live their lives. Tanner believes there is something fake about the reaction from their families and she convinces Thorne to pulls some strings to get the case assigned to him. She will always be the work horse, focused and determined, but the pairing with Thorne is an inspired and complimentary one. Except maybe his relationship with Helen, even after a few books with her she just isn’t a character I have really liked all that much and preferred Thorne when he was a loner however I can appreciate the character development here and Thorne becoming somewhat of a family man. Maybe they're taking extra time to edit out all the usual ebook typos and also add nice reader features like pagination instead of that stupid % thing.
