Many leather dye manufacturers provide a range of colours to choose from, so you can find a colour that closely matches the original colour of the leather or choose a completely new colour. Pour a small amount of the dye onto your applicator and gently apply it to a small area to test it before covering large sections of the couch.

In this example though we're actually using a black leather paint to repair the damaged paint on the leathers surface. Staining a sofa already a dark colour to an even darker one is generally easier than trying to dye a light-coloured sofa a darker one. Recolouring leather can be done in two ways: you can either apply a new paint layer to its surface, for example with the Angelus leather paint, or permanently colour the fibres of the leather with dye. For leather, rub the surface to be dyed with the rough side of an 'applicator sponge' to remove dirt, shoe creams and protectors that are on the leather which would prevent the correct application of the dye.
