About this deal

It’s not perfect, and there are a few things I would change about it, but I’d say the Les Paul Special VE is definitely worth the money. The guitar was here in just two days and the job performed by the guys at Sweetwater (intonation and setting as well as the change of strings ) was perfect.

If you are not adverse to going used, I would suggest a used Epiphone G400 paired with a used Fender Mustang I or II. Tuning this instrument is fast and reliable thanks to the Epiphone Premium Covered tuners with a 14:1 ratio. The finish is a little darker than I expected, but I can live with that-especially since that finish is so good. It’s simple enough that it just works, but it definitely has some neat adjustments you can do to set it up to your own personal standards.I also read in some reviews that the strings needed to be substituted so I bought along with the guitar a set of Ernie Ball "Slinkys" . The Epiphone Les Paul Special VE is a new version of the popular Epiphone Les Paul Special II model. This type of bridge requires regular checking of tuning as the strings can get out of tune much easier on this bridge type. Nothing in particular jumps out, but on a personal anecdote this is my first real experience with the Tune-o-matic style bridge and I have to say I’m impressed.

I spend my spare time exercising and hanging out with my wife and crazy dog (I guess that went the right way…). The EC-10 subs basswood for the body and maple for the neck which would make it a somewhat fatter, brighter guitar than the VE. If your young guitar enthusiast wants to learn re-fretting, that's much easier to do on a bolt on neck with no binding like this. Our site uses high-level SSL encryption technology, the most advanced security software currently available for online transactions. Atop the neck, you’ll find traditional Pearloid “Dot” inlays and 22 medium jumbo frets while the truss rod cover has the famous bell shape that every Les Paul has sported since the early ‘50s. As it stands, I can't get the special II (my location makes it harder), and have little clue on the VE, so I'm hoping some experts here can tell me if there is any significant differences between the two that would stop me from getting it? Considering the Les Paul Special VE is pretty much a direct competitor to Squier's new Bullet Mustang, I should say that the Epiphone and Les Paul decals look much better than the flat black logo on the Squier, which was one of my gripes.

Now, yet another problem has emerged, the Epiphone Les Paul Special II is no longer in production and has been replaced with the Epiphone Les Paul Vintage Edition.

I received the Vintage Worn Vintage Sunburst (that’s a vintage mouthful) finish and it’s astonishing! Regardless of which model you choose, the Epiphone Les Paul Special provides a highly enjoyable and rewarding playing experience that can take you from your first lesson through to recording and live performance. Ultimately however, I found the playability and feel of the Epiphone to be superior to that of the Squier.

After being properly dialed in, almost nothing except Gibson’s best examples can equal the neck/fretboard configuration. Apart from making a big difference to how the guitar looks, different types of wood can feel and sound quite different when you're playing on them, and their differing feels can subtly affect the way you play. First off, the models in your poll are purely for beginners, modders or someone who wants to destroy a cheap instrument. Also, some of the frets 'buzz', but I have greatly improved it's performance by raising the bridge slightly (low E side) and adjusting the truss rod just a bit.
