About this deal

This book takes us through four steps - I can't, I'm sorry, please help and let's go - that will help us look to ourselves less and depend on God more, enabling a spirit-led joyful obedience. Well, I actually don’t want to delve into too much detail here – I want any reader to find out the story like I did and go with the flow. I have to confess I nearly didn’t finish Sarah Lotz’s recent novel, Impossible (also marketed as The Impossible Us).

The plot itself, whilst very outlandish, did keep me engaged, and the ending itself was both somewhat unsettling and yet also felt right.

Besides the characters and their relationships, Impossible is also a well written novel with a gripping plot. They’ve both got baggage and we learn about this as the book progresses and there are some darker topics that appear later on. From the very first exchanged messages between the two main characters to the very last heartfelt words I lived this book.

My receipt of a review copy from the publisher did not impact the expression of my honest opinions above. I loved that as soon as Lucy herself was convinced that the Elfin Knight’s curse was real, she didn’t try to tackle everything on her own (as some truly too stupid to live heroines so often do)–instead, she talks to Zach, and then to her foster parents, asking them to believe her and to help her. Perhaps he is doing students a favor by trying waylay their teachers from giving them writing assignments that would demand they give a lofty weight and meaning to these critters in some outsized capacity.Things are bittersweet, knowing these two have found the person for them but also knowing they can never be together other than by text. Johannes, our lead, is interesting because in spite of his braggadocio, you aren’t put off in the least.

Sure, that probably was intentional seeing as we are supposed to be reading from the perspectives of two people after all. Selected by veteran F1 journalist Brad Spurgeon, Formula 1: The Impossible Collection chronicles the milestones that lifted Formula One from a gentlemen’s club in 1950 to a global sport with hundreds of millions of fans around the world, third in popularity only to the Olympics and World Cup soccer. The Eyes and The Impossible is one of the funniest books I’ve ever read – and then I found myself weeping at the end. I initially wrote this review on the hottest day of the year and I imagined you were probably already furious/melting/refusing to work/swimming in a paddling pool in the garden – delete as appropriate. But life is too short for the perfectly decent, particularly when we’re talking about an animal book. This led to the major crisis of the story, which left me as stunned as the two main characters as the book suddenly takes a fantasy twist I wasn’t expecting (no ‘magic’ as such, but Sci-Fi is too strong a word for what happens as, although what has occurred fits somewhat into some accepted theories, the ‘science’ remains unexplained). There are quite a lot of supporting characters, again many of whom are rather eccentric, such as the whole group of Berenstains/Berensteins, but they do add colour to the story with some engaging dynamics. Soon armchair sleuths and professional investigators are on a collision course with a sadistic serial killer who’s gotten away with his crimes for far too long – and now they’re in his sights. Reclusive bookseller Shaun Ryan has always believed that his uncle Teddy died in a car accident twenty years ago. When he witnesses creatures who should not exist racing down a hill, he discovers that his grandfather is a guardian of a way in to a magical world, the Archipelago, a group of islands that is home to creatures which humans believe only exist in myth.

Instead of writing it off as a crazy person (or phishing) she responds to clarify she isn’t the right recipient and they just never stopped talking.Bee is smart, funny and immensely likeable, Nick is also very witty as they bring out the absolute best in each other. She has served on Newbery, written for Horn Book, and has done other lovely little things that she'd love to tell you about but that she's sure you'd find more interesting to hear of in person. Animal lovers will be enthralled, and even for readers who mostly stick with humans, this is a standout example of the power of chosen family rather than biological ones. But what a blessing to consider the subsequent steps that in fact lead us to obey: "I'm sorry"; "Please help"; and "Let's Go.
