About this deal

Frank Mangrum officially loses to disqualification after kicking Palmer in the groin, then hitting the referee then gets knocked out by Palmer. There are a few plot holes that could do with patching and the fight sequences come straight from the Rocky School of boxing. Yes he is over the top blah blah blah but he takes risk and among his many bad films there are many good ones.

James Woods plays the consumate conman who sets up a boxing sting involving Louis Gosset Jr as the boxer, and Oliver Platt as their accomplice. Der frisch aus dem Knast gekommene Kunstfälscher Gabriel Caine (James Woods) wettet mit dem reichsten Mann von Diggstown John Gillon (Bruce Dern), dass der 48 jährige Boxer Roy Palmer (Louis Gosett Jr. No chapter selection screen, no trailer, merely the static menu screen with the same four icons as every other recent MGM back catalogue release. Ex-con Gabriel Caine (James Wood) heads for Diggstown, a place where unofficial boxing matches are held for big prize money. Caine finds himself a contender (Louis Gossett Jnr) and bets the crooked boss of Diggstown that his man can beat ten fighters in 24 hours.Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). Subtitles: Danish, Dutch, English Hard of Hearing, Finnish, French, Norwegian, Swedish DVD Regions: Region 2 Formats: Pal Aspect Ratio: Widescreen 1. His softer side only comes out when he’s trying to protect his son (Jim Caviezel) but even then his actions only help to showcase his flaws. Raging Bull is of course a masterpiece so there is no touching that, but if you are in the mood for a good comedy and just a flat out good movie I recommend it. Caine and Gillon agree to various conditions of the bet, with “one day” being 24 full hours and “Diggstown fighters” being able to come from any surrounding area of Olivair County.

This movie will have you gripped from the beginning as it starts with a prison fight and develops into Gabriel (James woods), pulling of a huge con with the help of Lou Gossett Junior. I certainly didn`t have high expectations when it came to this disc, the film definitely passed me by the first time round, but I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it.His reasons for taking down the bad guy are sincere and played out well making him slightly more complex than just a con man trying to win big money. For con artist Gabriel Caine (James Woods), Diggstown is the promised land, legendary for its high-stakes boxing matches that attract high-rollers from miles around.

It does serve to provide motivation for the characters, but then the light-heartedness begins to creep back in, and the dénouement seems out of place given the occurrences 30 minutes prior. There are also some racial slurs that seem over the top compared to today’s standards but only help to highlight how villainous John Gillon and his goons are. Whether from ill judged performances or miscasting is uncertain, but here he is perfectly cast as Gabriel Caine, a slick, fast talking hustler. Diggstown is one of those films trying to straddle a genre gap, and it doesn`t do too badly at the attempt, telling a story about a hustle involving boxing, Rocky meets The Sting.
