adidas should look east for inspiration. The reinvented Asics is what most running shoe brands should strive for. They have a strong line-up of neutral trainers and racers, while gradually making their trail assortment stronger. This is particularly commendable considering how rigid the Japanese tend to be in their thinking. We’re not sure whether the rear section of the outsole is made of Continental rubber. Based on the wear pattern, it could be well be ‘adiwear’ rubber. The Adios, on the other hand, is more of a daily trainer, but don’t call it slow. After all, it was the shoe of choice of the great champion Haile Gebrselassie. Proof that it has some power under the hood if you need it! With or without carbon plate?

Continental Rubber finishes off the outsole, furnishing the adios with exceptional grip as usual. My size 10.5 weighs 9 oz./257 grams. The tongue could use a little bit more padding, as when using the extra eyelet, the laces can press a little bit into the top of the foot. I didn’t notice it over the course of my run. It could be slightly improved . The heel has a pull tab featuring extra padding, yet is low enough not to aggravate my achilles. This is an excellent upper clearly designed with maximizing breathability and minimizing weight in mind. It matches the lightweight and precise personality of the shoe.

The Adios 6 midsole is a unique blend of the two foams that compose it, Lightstrike and Lightstrike Pro. The Lightstrike is a traditional lightweight, relatively firm EVA, while the Lightstrike Pro is a mysterious super lightweight and responsive foam which is also in the world record breaking Adios Pro 1 & 2 ( RTR Review) and super cushioned Prime X ( RTR Review ). Lightstrike is a lightweight EVA foam midsole that gives you just the right balance of lightweight cushioning and responsiveness. Lightstrike is designed for explosive movements. This means that except for the stabilizing ring of Lightstrike around the toe and sides, you’re running almost entirely on Lightstrike Pro at the midfoot and to the front. This differs from shoes like the Boston 10 where the entire layer above the outsole is Lightstrike, even if there’s an insert of Lightstrike Pro above it. We wished that adidas made the heel piece reflective. It looks reflective at first, but it’s merely glossy and doesn’t reflect light as a high-visibility trim should. PROS AND CONS
