Similar in design to a human shoe, a hoof boot provides complete protection for your horse’s hoof without the need for a steel shoe. There are many different types of horse hoof boot. We recommend always using a generous sized overreach boot over the top of MHB to protect it should your horse stand on himself or overreach. We recommend this on both front and hind hooves With everyday use in mind, the boot is also design for therapeutic and rehab purposes, and is a must have spare for any rider to have on hand. The easy fasten strap can be done effortlessly by hand, and the replaceable velcro closure extends the working life of the boot should the velcro fatigue over time. For anyone who’s treated abscesses in the hoof wall, you’ll know just by seeing the photos how useful this boot would be. It’s available in a choice of 10 sizes and is designed to be used with or without a shoe. The boot does have a snug fit and its unique zip design works brilliantly to prevent any bits of stable debris from getting in! Yes. Ground conditions must be reasonably dry and for the benefit of the horses comfort, fairly flat. We would not recommend you try and use them in very wet and muddy conditions.

Please note, using any boot for turnout must be done with common sense. Horses will step on themselves in the field and no boot will stand up to this kind of demand. We recommend using over-reach boots for turnout. If in doubt please call me and we can discuss the best boot for your situation. It may be that a more durable boot would be more advisable. If the upper is too tight, it is unlikely you will be able to do the zip up fully and this will be an indication that you have the incorrect size. When fitting the boot you may find it easier to face the front of the horse and rest his leg on your knees – similar to how your farrier holds the foot when shoeing. This enables you to look down the front of the boot and use the ‘V’ indent as a guide to ensure the boot is not crooked when fitted. Overreaching If turning the horse out, ensure he is happy with the feel of the boot first. In the unlikely event the horse is nervous of the boot, walk him gently around his stable so that he can get used to it. They will soon realise it is comfortable and will not impede movement.

Once you have pulled the boot onto the foot, let the horse put his foot down as this will help push the foot further into the boot. Looking after a barefoot horse is no more difficult than a shod horse for most owners once they have a new routine established, but owners should consider their situation before deciding if barefoot is the best option for them.
