If you’re anything like me, you like to try and cater to that mindset by delving yourself into the narrative in different ways. Give the dinosaur player your character move and take the new characters and cards and place the character mover on the start space. Its success created an entire genre of board games, with hits ranging from his own Pandemic Legacy Season 1, to the sterling dungeon crawler Gloomhaven, to the charming, reusable Charterstone. This can be frustrating for the human player who is stuck being unable to do anything, with the situation being completely outside of their control.

But none of those have come close to recreating the feel of being on Isla Nublar with dinosaurs like Jurassic Park Danger does! The aim of the game is to collect three lost items as your make your way around the board to the East Dock, while trying not to get. With 3 dinosaurs running wild, it’s close to impossible for any of the human characters to go unscathed.

That each of them has a deck and character goal that fits so perfectly with their character is a brilliant touch. Since (s)he knows what the characters’ goals are (including activating the locations), it’s really easy to cut people off. During step 3 of the next round you dinosaur must reappear in its current space or an adjacent space. Jurassic Park: Danger feels like 80% of a game, it looks like a game and sounds like a game, but it just misses the mark.

One might lead a few guests off toward the safety of the nearby visitor center while another runs past, dodging a carnivorous dinosaur on the way to take a genetic sample from a nearby herbivorous herd.
